OBITUARY
Thomas Hugh Fogleman
April 20, 1925 – August 10, 2017
Thomas Hugh “Tommy” Fogleman, 92, of Liberty died on Thursday, August 10, 2017 after a very brief illness.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. with David Millikan and Wallace Sills officiating at Rocky River Friends Meeting, 1795 Staley-Snow Camp Road, Siler City; burial will follow in the meeting cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the meeting fellowship hall. He will lie in repose at Loflin Funeral Home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Tommy was born on April 20, 1925 to John Bunyon “Bun” Fogleman and Anne Dare Lashley Fogleman in the Pleasant Hill Community. He attended school at Sylvan and entered the Navy during World War II. He served from May 16, 1944 to the end of the war and was awarded two Bronze Stars for valor while participating in over 10 campaigns in Saipan, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Guam. His service was on the USS Birmingham.
Tommy married Bonnie Johnson in 1946 and they celebrated their 68th Anniversary in 2014. They were members of Liberty Friends Meeting and later Rocky River Friends which they both generously supported. He was an “encourager” to people and believed strongly in the power of positive thinking and in helping those who needed assistance.
Always a very hard worker and a good businessman. Tommy spent most of his working life as a successful timberman with extra farming on the side. He was physically able to do some farming until his death and enjoyed the labor. He loved the game of baseball as a player and spectator and enjoyed so much listening to Bluegrass music. Tommy’s special humor will be missed by many people.
Surviving is his son, Thomas Johnson Fogleman (Deborah); one sister, Hazelene Fogleman Zackery (Dalton); three grandchildren, Jason Fogleman (Dawn), Katie Peddycord (Gerry), Josh Fogleman (Jocelyn), eight great-grandchildren; Cy, Maddy, Joe, Sam, James, Vada, Luke and Ty. The family gives special thanks to the staff at UNC Memorial, Chapel Hill and to all friends who stayed with him there and in his home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Rocky River Friends Meeting, c/o Karen Pike, Treasurer, 802 North Dogwood, Siler City, NC 27344 or Randolph County Honor Guard, P.O. Box 1672, Asheboro, NC 27204.

Tommy was a friend and a hard-working timberman to my dad, Byron Hargrove, for many, many years. My dad held Tommy in the highest esteem as a friend and as a fellow businessman. My mom and dad used to socialize with Tommy and Bonnie by going out to eat, and they always enjoyed this so much. My dad passed away in 2001. He will now be able to share stories of walking timber with his old friend again! Tommy was a good man.

Thank you, Uncle Tommy, for sweetening my childhood memories~ I couldn't wait to see you each time we visited, where I knew big hugs and smiles would be waiting! Later on, I could always depend on your warm humor, with joking winks and calming words -and best of all, a little feets rub- to help from long airport walks in tiny buckle-shoes and hours flying over from Germany- to help me nap in the soft couch. Remembering falling asleep, just listening to you and my Aunt Bonnie, laughing together with my mom & dad in the kitchen, together again at last! Missing you so much and somewhere I know there is a kitchen table, where you four are young, strong and vibrant and reminiscing together, once again! Love you always.....

We mourn the passing of an incredible uncle. Our hearts and thoughts are with Tommy's family and friends. While our visits from out West have been too infrequent, the times we shared are remembered for the awesome NC hospitality -- including a jet-ski experience, feeding catfish on his pond, and just driving around with Tommy as our guide. He was truly a larger-than-life personality. He will be missed. -- Sylvia and Ron Roach of Sacramento, CA, sons Wade of Alaska and Ryan of Southern California, and their families.

I have lost one of the most important men in my life. He taught me how to work, how to play, and most importantly to be a man. I love him and he will be with me and my wife until we are called to join him in heaven. Heaven is an even better place now that my uncle Tommy is there. I love you uncle Tommy.

My husband, Jimmie Routh and Tommy worked and played together for many years. If they ever were angry with each other I never knew it. Tommy was a friend, business partner, and confidant to Jimmie. Tommy was always upbeat and positive. He had a generous spirit; and he enjoyed giving and making others happy. Tommy enjoyed nothing better than a party. I expect that Heaven's probably a lot more lively right now and Tommy laugh is booming out. The Rouths were blessed to have him in our lives.

Life is but a series of events that occur. It is how we fill those events that makes us who we are! You Tommy chose to grab each moment by the horns and in the process try to give something to everyone all the way. You survived war, hard financial times and the loss of a wife. You took it and pulled it close to your heart and kept on living making others lives better in the pathway. Thru hard work you were able to be comfortable and I would venture to say happy. Thanks for allowing me to share some Bonnie time and Tommy time . Thank heavens you didn't miss the dance!
