A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Zelda was born to the late Price and R.V. Pepper Bass. She was preceded in death by her sisters Sally Cole, Mildred Bass, and Jala Smith, and by her brothers Allen Bass and Barry Bass.
Zelda lived a life deeply rooted in her faith in Jesus Christ. She expressed her devotion through selfless service—both abroad and at home. Her mission work led her to China, India, and Haiti, where she ministered to those in need with compassion and grace. Locally, she was a cherished member of the missions team at New Covenant Fellowship Church in Graham, where she found lasting friendships and a vibrant spiritual community.
In addition to her mission work, Zelda was a dedicated Sunday school teacher, sharing God’s word with both young students and English language learners. She approached each lesson with patience, joy, and a deep desire to see others grow in their understanding and faith.
A devoted mother, Zelda prayed daily for her family. In her younger years, she opened her heart and home to many as a foster mother, providing love, stability, and care to children in need. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering kindness touched countless lives.
She leaves behind a loving family to carry on her legacy: her son, Joel Brooks, and his wife, Rachael; her daughter, Karen Brooks Caldwell, and her husband, Gordon; her grandchildren, Joshua Brooks and his wife, Amber, Abigail Oliver and her husband, Jesse, and Daniel Brooks and his wife, Adelin; her great-grandchildren, Maddilee and Riley; and her sister, Zola Lynn Mooneyham.
Zelda will be remembered as a strong, independent woman whose compassion and courage left an indelible mark on those who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her loved ones find peace in knowing she is joyfully reunited with her Savior in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31st, at New Covenant Fellowship Church. Zelda's family will begin receiving guests at 11:00 AM, and the service will start at 12:00 PM.
