Anne S Cary

Anne Sydnor Cary, age 76, entered her heavenly home on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Anne remained active and social until the last days of her life, just as she would have wanted. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving daughters.

Anne was born in Beckley, West Virginia, on April 25, 1948, to Arthur “Sid” and Helen Sydnor. She spent her childhood in Oak Hill, West Virginia, where she formed lifelong friendships and cherished many fond memories. She graduated from Collins High School in 1966.

Anne earned a degree in English Literature from West Virginia University. After graduation, she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to teach English. It was there that she met Bill Cary, a fellow Mountaineer and the love of her life. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Andrea and Katie.

Anne found her true calling as a preschool teacher at Christ Church School, where she poured her passion, boundless energy, and deep faith into hundreds of young students over the years. She was a devoted Christian and remained actively involved in her church and bible study.

Anne is survived by her beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea and Bob Dechert and Katie and Edward McLean. Her greatest joy was being “Gogo” to her five wonderful grandchildren: Lacy (14), Landon (12), Gavin (11), Jackson (10), and Sophie (6). She also remained close to her brother-in-law, Bray Cary, and sister-in-law, Alice Cary, as well as her nephew and two nieces. Anne’s life was enriched by many dear friends, whom she always considered family.

Her family finds comfort in knowing that Anne lived life to the fullest and is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Bill Cary, whom she deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Christ Church United Methodist at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 8th. All are welcome to attend.
