A wartime baby born in London, England, the son of Ethel Skinner and Leonard Fortey, and twin brother of the late David Walter Fortey, Chris gained degrees in English and History to a Masters level and went on to a career as a history teacher, followed by a real-estate agent.
Chris spent the final years of his life in what he described as “the glorious Florida sunshine” with his wife, Caroline; daughter, Abigail; son-in-law, Peter; two young grandchildren, Ellis (3) and Dylan (9 months); and his beloved grand-dog, Dudley.
A lifelong athlete and avid tennis player, Chris was always willing to talk tennis and trade technical tips. Into his late 70s, he could be seen daily on the Langland Bay tennis courts in South Wales. His love of poetry and classical music was only surpassed by his love for his wife of 39 years, daughter and family.
With a soft and gentle spirit and a quick wit, Chris was loving, charming and kept his family laughing into his final days. His family will remember Chris through laughter, poetry, tennis, curry, sunshine, and his favorite salutation, “Every Happiness!"
