He also enjoyed being on the water boating and water skiing. His first job was working for his Uncle in a gas station until he joined the Navy. After his service, he returned to South Florida and started working in the trades as a Glacier. He installed glass windows and mirrors in hotels and resorts up and down the beaches of South Florida including the "Fontainebleau Miami Beach". After many successful years, Conrad launched his own company, Custom Fiberglass Coaches, where he created, designed and fabricated fiberglass units for transporting racing Greyhounds. This soon expanded to manufacturing units for Animal Control agencies, Humane Societies, Rescue groups and wildlife conservationists throughout the U.S.
The craftsmanship of all his units was so evolved that you can still see them in operation all over the country.
In the late 60's he moved his family to Crystal River, Florida where he leased a fast food restaurant, the Wheel Inn. After a couple of years he was able to purchase land in Homosassa Springs, Fl and resume operations of Custom Fiberglass Coaches. Once again, due to his interest in racing go-karts, he expanded his business adding the manufacturing of fiberglass go-kart parts. Many of his aerodynamic designs are still in use today. After 40 plus years as owner/operator of Custom Fiberglass Coaches he was able to enjoy retirement In Vero Beach for over 10 years.
Conrad was preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings (Heintz, Rosemary, Gertrude and Mike). He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Inez Borcheller; son Terry Borcheller (Tracy); daughters Nina Lewis and Connie "Sugie" Stedham (Lynn); Goddaughter Jillian Fipps; Godson Mark Hulbert (Linda); 13 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be from 11:30 to 1 pm Saturday April 22, 2017, at Central Assembly of God, 6767 20th St (SR 60), Vero Beach, Florida 32966 with Pastor Buddy Tipton presiding.
