David was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Madeline and Lawrence Monberg on December 9, 1979. He grew up in Fort Lauderdale where he attended both Christ Church School and Westminster Academy. David graduated from New York University. After college, he remained in the city and began a successful career in finance. As the founder of Monberg Capital Partners, he worked tirelessly on behalf of his clients—helping them make their dreams a reality.
David was known for his big heart, big humor, and big personality. He could bring you to tears with an impersonation or perfectly timed joke. To know David was to know what it meant to truly laugh out loud.
His life was full of love for his family and friends. David was deeply invested in his community and known for making people feel known and included. It brought him great joy to build bridges between people and help others.
David lived a life filled with gratitude and purpose. Every year, he eagerly joined his beloved friends from Team Eagle in the Cycle for the Cause, riding from Boston to New York City. In his final race this past October, David's mother Madeline proudly cheered him on at the finish line.
David is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Monberg, Jr. and grandmother, Mafalda Ziccardi. David is survived by his mother, Madeline Monberg; brother, Matthew Monberg; and sister, Kirsten Gappelberg. He had five nieces and nephews he loved with all his heart, Caroline Monberg, Tobin Monberg, Desta Monberg, Madeline Gappelberg, and Michael Gappelberg.
David was passionate about giving back. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to further the lifesaving work of NYU Langone’s Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program.
