She was suffering for several years with dementia and ultimately succumbed to the disease earlier this year. MaryJo was a devout Catholic throughout her life and loved being a part of her church at San Isidro Church in Pompano Beach, Florida. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska on July 13, 1944, as MaryJo Gould and quickly moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she spent most of her formative years. In 1962, she graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School, where she met L. Lance Johnson. The pair later married in 1965 and MaryJo gave birth to her two children, Natalie Johnson and Michelle Ng. In 1980, she moved with her two daughters to her beloved Florida to be closer to her Brother and Sister-in Law, Pat and Carol Gould. MaryJo loved being around family. One of her favorite pastimes was working on the family tree. In her 40s, MaryJo decided to continue her academic career at the collegiate level and received her Bachelor’s degree in Business from Barry University. She was very proud of this achievement and utilized her knowledge in her positions at companies such as Mitel, Siemens, and finally Cisco.
After she retired, MaryJo found joy in her various hobbies and her role as a Grandmother to Camille and Juliette Ng. Her hobbies of sewing and needlepointing in particular flourished, as she enjoyed creating costumes for her granddaughters’ annual ballet performances, crafting ornaments, and stitching stockings for everyone to enjoy. She also loved to collect things, one of her favorites being her adorable Beanie Babies. She would stop at stores during her travels to search for the newest Beanie Baby and see if she could collect them all. She also loved attending the Gem shows in Tucson, Arizona. MaryJo would enlist all her friends to help scour out all of the gemstones that she could turn into jewelry, wear, or share with her family.
