He was born in Brighton, England to father John Douglas Robinson and mother Kathleen May Madden. As a child he attended boarding school at Bradfield College in Bradfield, England. He came from a long distinguished family of military members and as a young man enrolled in the Her Majesty’s Royal Army. Following his military service he began his career in the international distribution of packaged meat products. His work allowed him to travel extensively where his love of people and cultural diversity blossomed.
His work eventually brought him to Puerto Rico where he settled and created his distribution headquarters. He was known on the island as the Churrasco King. During this time he also began a love of sailing and named his first sailboat “Churrasco” (Spanish for skirt steak). He spent his weekends on the sailboat island hopping in the Caribbean or in regattas and races.
Phil was an avid reader and despite never attending university he maintained a scholarly curiosity to learn about different subjects. He was a francophile and continued to study French throughout his adult life. Often practicing with his professor Yves on his daily morning walks. He enjoyed chess and the relaxing sounds of classical music were ever present.
Philip was a lover of food and never met a cake he didn’t love. Even greater than his sweet tooth was his love of his evening Scotch which he looked forward to almost daily. His deep belly laugh was infectious and his smile was warm and welcoming. He had the ability to connect emotionally to anyone that crossed his path regardless of their origin, status or background.
His life philosophy was “con calma”. Take it easy. Go slow. Everything will work itself out in time.
He is survived by his children Isabel, John Anders, J.C. (wife Rebecca) and Paloma May (husband John). He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Sebastian, Jose, Lucas, Logan and Aubrey.
