Born deaf, Doug never let that define or limit him. Known to many as the “engine whisperer,” he worked as a gifted mechanic for Waste Management for an incredible 49 years. His natural talent, deep understanding of machinery, and unwavering dedication made him a legend in the shop. To his coworkers, who became like a second family, Doug was more than a colleague — he was a friend, a mentor, and a source of constant support and humor.
Doug had a true passion for electronics and could fix just about anything. Whether it was a broken engine or a faulty circuit board, he approached every challenge with patience and skill. His hands were rarely still, and his heart was always open.
He is survived by his loving brother, Joseph (Joan); and beloved niece Courtney (Joseph); and great nieces and nephew, Olivia, Sophia, Haylee and Joseph Jr, who adored their Uncle Doug and brought him endless pride and joy.
Doug’s kind spirit, sharp wit, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He left us far too soon and will be missed more than words can express.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, August 24th, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, located at 4650 N Federal Highway, Lighthouse Point, FL 33064. His family welcomes all who wish to pay their final respects.
