Evelyn Ruth Katterheinrich Stempsey

Evelyn Ruth Katterheinrich Stempsey, 95, resident of Wesley Commons, widow of Orlan Bernard Stempsey, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018, at Hospice House. Born October 15, 1923, in Lima, OH, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Emanuel and Roena Wilhelmina Stroh Katterheinrich. She was a graduate of Shawnee High School and attended Bowling Green State University. Mrs. Stempsey retired as office manager for Siferd Funeral Home in Lima and was formerly employed as a certified professional secretary with Ernest Evans & Company CPA. A member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Greenwood, she was formerly a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lima, OH, where she served on the administrative board. She was a longtime volunteer with the Rabbit Patch at Wesley Commons and was an avid bridge player all her adult life. Surviving are a son, Randall and wife Phyllis Stempsey of Englewood, FL; a daughter, Susan and husband Bill McFarland of Greenwood; a brother, John Kenrich of Cincinnati, OH; a grandson, Darryl Stempsey of Colorado Springs, CO; two step-grandsons, William and wife Suzanne McFarland of Denver and Joel and wife Kelly McFarland of Rochester, NY; three step-great grandchildren, Cooper, Macy and Jaxson McFarland; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Marian Klay and Janice Cockman. Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Asbury Hall of Wesley Commons with Rev. Kathy Hudson and Rev. Carol Peppers Wray officiating. The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at Asbury Hall from 10 to 11 am Tuesday, January 8th, immediately before the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646, or to Wesley Commons Building Fund, 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC 29646.
