

Harold “Skinny” L. Hughes, 86, of Lima, died peacefully at 9:10 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, in Lima Memorial Health Systems surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 23, 1929, in Vaughnsville, to John C. and Bessie (Green) Hughes who preceded him in death. On June 1, 1951, he married Alice Corrine Dingledine who preceded him in death on June 12, 2014.
Surviving are their children: Harold L. Hughes, Jr. of Columbus, Lawrence C. Hughes of Adairville, KY, Christopher (Becky) Hughes and Victoria Kathryn Hughes, both of Lima. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive Harold. He was the last of his brothers and sisters.
Mr. Hughes retired from Toledo Blade newspaper. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict as a mechanic. He was a loving father who cared for everyone, and enjoyed helping anyone who needed assistance. He loved camping and discussing politics.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Oct. 5 in Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Loescher officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by V.F.W. Post 1275.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
