Joseph Crayton was born to Lydia (Granton) and Joseph Crayton, Sr. on May 23, 1931 in Oak Ridge, Mississippi. His parents preceded him in death. He confessed hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized Joseph was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.
Joseph served in the United States Army from 1952 into the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1958. Upon his discharge, Joseph worked at the Vicksburg National Military Park for four years. He held other odd jobs and retired from Goodyear Tire.
He was united in holy matrimony to Pauline Dunn, who preceded him in death. To this union six children were born. Joseph was married to Alice Crayton and Clora (Tee) Crayton, who both preceded him in death.
Joseph Crayton, Jr is survived by his children, Shirley McQueen of St. Louis, Missouri; Larry (Cid) Crayton of Lima; Paula Crayton of Atlanta, Georgia and Lee Crayton of New Boston, Texas; nine grandchildren: Roosevelt, Paulette, Andre, Darico, Amanda, Jeff, Koeika, Rashaunda and Chantelle; seventeen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, three step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother-in-law, Russell (Tennie) Dunn of Indianola, Mississippi, a sister-in-law, Ineze Blanche of Chicago; a special nephew Melvin Meeks of Lima, a special cousin, Joe Banks of Columbus, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by two children, Joseph and Wanda Crayton; nine siblings, Larnie Mae Reed, Bertha Mae White, Delia Kelly, Roosevelt Crayton, Pinkie Griffin, Rebecca Wells, Agnes Jones, Idell and Steve Crayton.
