Margery E. Smith

Margery E. Smith, of Lima, died at 9:54 a.m., Sunday, April 08, 2012, at her daughter’s residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 22, 1927, in Ft. Wayne, IN, to Fred and Mabel (Hazelet) Springer who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Smith.

Mrs. Smith was a 1945 graduate of New Haven High School. She retired from General Telephone as a long-distance operator and then pursued a career as a realtor/broker for Century 21. She enjoyed bingo, casino trips and watching college basketball with her family. She especially loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought love and joy to her life. She was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church, Ft. Wayne. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary.

Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl (Steve) Yeager of Lima and one son, Kevin (Sheryl) Schieferstein of Churubusco, IN; four grandchildren: Aron (Meagan) Schieferstein and Lindsey (Michael) Hess both of Huntertown, IN, Jackson Schieferstein of Churubusco, IN and Miranda Yeager of Lima; six great-grandchildren: Julian, Brieonna and Calvin Makley of Lima, Ryder Schieferstein, Payton Semprini and Isaac Hess of Huntertown, IN; a brother, Fred (Karen) Springer of Wolcottville, IN and a sister, Jean (Richard) Uhrick of Ft. Wayne.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Rayola Springer and Marcile Brunson.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, with Rev. Bryan Bucher officiating. Burial will follow in Bowers Cemetery, Ft. Wayne.

Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
