Ronald N. “Rat” Godsey, 73, of Lima, died at 3:49 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2013, at Kindred Hospital, Lima, with his loving family by his side. He was born October 4, 1939, in Lima, to Claude and Phyllis Black Godsey, Sr., who preceded him in death. On June 2, 1962, he married Ruby D. Burt who survives.
Mr. Godsey retired from B.P. Warehouse. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in Korea and the Philippines. Mr. Godsey was well known for his barbeque ribs and fried chicken. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, playing pool, watching Westerns, war movies, and his weekly shopping trips with his sisters. He was a father figure to many of his children’s friends.
Also surviving are three children: Deirdre Godsey of Nevada, Jason (Michelle) Godsey and Robyn (Heath) Sunderland both of Lima; his grandchildren: Andy Schoonover, Anthony Godsey, Mariah Godsey, Xavier Godsey, Jordynn Sunderland and Michael Godsey; his siblings: Phyllis “Nita” West, Carol Owens, and Bill Godsey all of Lima, Bobby Godsey of Piqua and Claude Godsey, Jr. of Lima; and a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by the following siblings: Beverly Stephenson, Tommy Godsey, Sr., Alan Godsey, Sr. and Charles Godsey.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, in Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, with Rev. Dennis Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery with military rites by V.F.W. Post 1275.
Visitation will be on Monday, from 2-4, and 6-8 p.m., in the funeral home.
