

Sandra L. Gorby, 74, of Lima passed away 6:30 p.m. Monday evening, October 27, 2014 at Springview Manor Nursing Home. She was born February 3, 1940 in Lima to Victor & Helen (McDermott) Stephens and they preceded her in death. On August 1, 1981, she married Kenneth J. Gorby and he passed away February 27, 2005.
Sandy retired from the Lima Army Tank Depot serving as a contract specialist; she was employed with them for over 20 years. She also had been employed at MetBank of Lima, prior to that she was employed at the First Bank & Trust and Prudential Insurance both in Jacksonville . She was a 1958 graduate of Lima Central High School, and she was a member of New Creation Lutheran Church where she served in their Women’s Group, and also as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member and past treasurer of Mended Hearts Chapter 111 of Lima since 1976. She had been the President of the Daughters of McKanna from 1974-1995. She was a member of the American Legion Post 96 Auxiliary, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #370 Auxiliary. She volunteered at the YMCA and the Allen Co. Museum where she was assistant curator in the early ‘70’s. She loved her family especially her nieces and nephews and her cats.
Sandy is survived by her siblings, Marilyn Lehman of Lima and Robert Stephens of Tolleson, Arizona. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Belinda (William) Zipf of Columbus, Greg (Dawn) Lehman of Lafayette, IN, Thomas (Becky) Stephens of Lima Gary (Sherry) Stephens of Grand Prairie, TX, Cynthia Nolte of Arlington, TX, Carolyn Stegman of Bellevue, OH, Bryan (Kathleen) Stephens of San Diego, CA, William (Christi) Stephens of Lake Worth, FL, Victoria (Paul) Donahue of Fleming Island, FL and Betsy (James) Stephens Butler of Delray Beach, FL. A brother, Jack Stephens, preceded her in death.
Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2014 at SIFERD-ORIANS FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Sam Payne, officiating. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Family and friends may call Thursday morning from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.
