LIMA—William Ray “Bill” Turnbull died peacefully at his residence the evening of Thursday, October 6, 2016. Friends and family compassionately attended him as he concluded a decade-long, hard-fought battle against cancer. He was one day shy of his 66th birthday.
Born October 7, 1950, to Robert R. And Jean E. (Fontaine) Turnbull, who preceded him in death, Bill will be best remembered for his broad smile, his big laugh, and the mischievous twinkle in his eye. Bill breathed life into the room when he entered and he was an artist at friendship. Many of his friendships from the Lima Senior Class of 1969 remain to this day. Even in business as a real estate agent and broker for over 40 years, many clients became friends. His greatest friendship was with Jeffrey R. Givan who survives in Lima, Ohio. They were married October 9, 2015 and shared many hearty laughs and schemed many big dreams during the sixteen and a half years they shared together. Today Kismet Gardens, an aquaponic greenhouse at their home, stands as a testament to Bill and Jeff’s tireless efforts to see their grandest dream become reality.
Bill will always be treasured and remembered by his brother, James A. “Jim” Turnbull; Maggie Klay Turnbull, mother to their children; his son, William Brian Turnbull; his daughter, Julie Marie (Shane) Crites; and his four grandsons: Hayden, Jackson, Landon and Gavin Crites. Bill especially loved being a grandpa and treasured time with his grandsons. His face lit with genuine excitement each moment they were together.
Funeral service will be held at Shawnee Alliance Church, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11 am, with Rev. Shane Crites officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Veteran’s Food Pantry, 810 W. North St., Lima, OH 45801.
