Ann Thomas Jones was born in Oakland, California on July 25, 1925 She passed away peacefully at the age of 97, on Saturday, January 14, 2023 in Lincoln California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Martha Thomas, and her husband of 72 years, Donald M. Jones. Ann is survived by her children, Deborah Noyes (Donald) and Douglas Jones (Barbara), her sister, Jeanne Thomas, granddaughters Hilary Kirk (Dan) and Lindsey Noyes, and great-grand children Leo and Vivian. Ann is also survived by Doug's stepchildren and their four children, Nathan, Harrison, Kendall and Peyton
Ann graduated from Piedmont High School and went on to Mills College in Oakland, where she earned a degree in Child Development in 1947. She taught kindergarten for a couple of years, married in 1949, and moved on to raise her family. She was the consummate Cub Scout Den Mother and Campfire Girls group leader, and could be relied upon to drive kids here and there and everywhere, chaperone field trips, and feed hordes of high school students blowing through the house for lunches and pot luck dinners.
Along the way, her husband taught her to play golf and it became her passion. No empty nest problems for her. She and Don went on many golf trips together and with friends, thoroughly enjoying life. She took painting lessons and developed quite a talent for watercolors. When her granddaughters were born, she could hardly wait to get her hands on them. She loved watching them grow up and was over the moon when Hilary’s children, Leo and Vivian, arrived. Ann loved babies and dogs. She was the neighborhood dog whisperer. A friend of hers once said, "if there were such a thing as reincarnation, she wanted to come back as one of Ann’s dogs."
Ann’s last two years were a challenge, as she had lost Don in January of 2021. The care staff at Summerset Lincoln Memory Care were absolutely fantastic and worked hard to make life easier for her. So while we are sad to lose her, we are glad that she is released from her difficulties. We would like everyone to imagine her and Don, walking along some beautiful celestial golf course somewhere, their favorite dogs, Brandy, Shirley, and Ruby trotting alongside.
