Dennis is survived by his loving daughters, Kristin Kimbrough, Andrea Matthews and Jennifer Dakin; 9 grandchildren: Anthony Tingler, Eathyn Matthews, Ryan Matthews, Lillyana Kimbrough, Evalynn Dakin, Arabella Kimbrough, Faye Dakin, Brooklyn Matthews, and Veil Dakin. He was preceded by his wife, Valarie Gouvea Lucas, whom he was endlessly devoted to, sharing many special moments of love and care.
Dennis was a graduate of Lincoln High School, class of 1965. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served as a Munitions Expert from 1967 to 1971 as a Sergeant in the Vietnam War. He returned home, where he worked as a Locomotive Engineer for 20 years with both the Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad. From here, he owned Lincoln’s first gun store, Guns ‘N Gear, where he was able to share his munitions passion with the local community.
Dennis devoted himself to others through his lifelong connection to the Lincoln Rifle Club, serving as a Jr. Rifle Club coordinator, Hunter’s Safety Course Teacher, Dillman Range Master, and active shooter and participant at the range. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and cherished memories with family and friends, holding dear to him the celebrations with his much-loved sons-in-law, grandchildren, daughters, and wife during their many camping adventures.
His generosity and kindness toward others will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be determined.
