Gerald Elton Logan

April 15, 1924-January 20, 2017

Jerry passed away on Friday January 20, 2017 at the age of 92 at his daughter Lucie’s home in Lincoln, California, surrounded by his wife and their children.

He was born in Auburn, California to George Elton Logan and Hildegarde Cate and lived in Lincoln throughout his childhood. After graduating Lincoln High School he left for Berkeley, CA to attend the university. He was drafted into the Army partway through his schooling and was sent to post war Germany. There he met his future wife Gisela who later came to California where he would return to finish his education.

He spent the next 30 years in Morgan Hill, CA where he and Gisela raised 6 children and he taught at Live Oak High School. He was very well liked and respected by all of his students and his peers. He also wrote several textbooks and lectured around the world at teacher workshops.

When he retired he moved back to his hometown of Lincoln where he volunteered thousands of hours of his time and research into the history of this area he so loved. For years he wrote “Out of the Archives” articles for the local paper, helped folks trace their genealogy, wrote several history books and was co-founder of the “Lincoln Area Archives Museum”. Jerry was also very instrumental in rekindling the Lincoln parlor #63 of the “Native Sons of The Golden West”. He will be missed by a great many people here who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Gisela, his living children, Lucie of Lincoln, CA, Dan of Montclair, VA, Mike of Morgan Hill, CA, Lynette of Morgan Hill, CA and Andrew of Clovis, NM and their spouses, 18 grandchildren and their spouses, and 22 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Chris and 2 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Don, and his first born child Malinda.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Native Sons of the Golden West Parlor #63 in Lincoln, CA and/or the Lincoln Area Archives Museum.

In accordance with his wishes a Memorial Service will be held in the at Manzanita Cemetery in Lincoln on April 15, 2017 (his birthday) at 11:30.
