Janice Maurine Crawford

With sadness we announce the passing of Janice Maurine Crawford on Jan. 30, 2025, in Loomis, CA. Born Sept 24, 1932, to Clarence and Mathilda Apland of Norwegian descent in Huxley, Iowa, 12th of 13 children.

Loving wife of Paul Crawford for 75 yrs. Additionally, Janice is survived by her children: Cynthia (Moe) Finn of Carmichael, Michael (Audrey) Crawford of Sheridan, Steven (Margaret) Crawford of Redding, and Julie (Allen) Cefalu of Sunnyvale. Preceded in death by son, Timothy (Jan) Crawford, parents and 12 siblings. Blessed with 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Janice moved to Patterson, CA with her family in 1942 where she attended Patterson High School and Our Savior Lutheran Church. Faith and family were tenets of the Apland family and Janice continued that heritage.

Spending over 40 yrs. in the food service industry, starting as a waitress. Janice retired as general manager of a 4-star restaurant in Santa Clara. Thus began a love of gourmet cooking much to the delight of her family. Janice enjoyed a good party and was the “hostess with the mostest”. Between friends and family there was always a party or BBQ on the weekend at the Crawford home in San Jose. Janice especially loved her “little ones” doting on her grandchildren.

Janice and Paul relocated to Lincoln in 1990, fulfilling Paul’s dream of owning country property. This was an adjustment for the city girl who continued to manage the restaurant, staying in the bay area with friends during the week. Deciding that it was time to retire, Jan found a church and bridge club (she was a fierce competitor having learned to play bridge from her sisters) and adjusted to country living. We will always carry her memory in our hearts.

Funeral services will be at Lincoln Funeral Home 406 H Street on Feb. 19, 2025, at 11am. Followed by private committal for immediate family. 916.645.2347.
