Raymond Howard Engelhardt

Ray was born April 13,1943 in Riceville Iowa to Howard and Marcella Engelhardt. At a young age he worked on a farm and learned the values of hard work which was carried on throughout his lifetime. He attended High School in Waterloo, IA.

Ray joined the United States Air Force in April 13, 1960 on his exact 17th birthday. He was proud of his military service and made a career of serving for “22 years, 2 months and 18 days”. He often said he would do it all again. He was stationed at many locations, both stateside and overseas including being in Vietnam 1969-1970. During his service time he earned a BA degree from the University of Maryland. He retired from the Air Force in 1982 with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Upon retirement Ray settled with his family in Folsom, CA. He worked at Tayko Industries briefly before becoming a Correctional Officer at Folsom State Prison. Ray began this second career in 1982 of which lasted “20 years and 4 months” retiring as a Sergeant.

In 1994 Ray met the love of his life, Joyce. They instantly knew there was a bond and that they were soul mates wanting to be together forever. They spent time working, traveling, and enjoying life. In 2000 they moved to Sun City Lincoln Hills to enjoy life even more.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, sister ( Clara) and brother (Gary).

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; two sons Mike and Larry, a daughter Tammy, 2 stepchildren Shannon and Jason, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ray will always be remembered as such a kind man with a quick sense of humor. He was always willing to help others in any way needed. He was involved in many organizations and was always the one to get things done and to “get it done right”. He was a member of Lincoln Community Church serving as an elder, a member of the Men’s Ministry and also a member of Burnt Offerings. He loved playing golf and was proud when he and his golf partner would win a tournament.

A Visitation and viewing will he held Thurs. July 23 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Lincoln Funeral Home, 406 H St. Lincoln, CA. A short service and final toast will be at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be Friday, July 24 at 11:30 a.m. Sacramento Valley Cemetery in Dixon, CA. A church memorial will be on Saturday, August 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Lincoln Community Church 950 E. Joiner Pkwy, Lincoln, CA.
