Sharon is survived by her son Christopher Spencer, grandsons Tyler and Kyle Spencer, brother Daniel (Joann) McMullen, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors, and her best friend of over 50 years, Marie Zugnoni.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, David Spencer, son Mark Spencer, sister Leigh McMullen and parents George and Frances (Langanki) McMullen.
Sharon was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1961, she graduated from North Senior High School in North St. Paul, MN. In 1964, Sharon married Airman David Spencer of Clearwater, MN, and followed David’s U.S. Airforce career, residing in Oklahoma and throughout California. In 1971, Sharon attended and graduated from Sierra College, School of Vocational Nursing, and worked as Licensed Vocational Nurse for Los Angeles County, before being disabled from an injury on the job. Sharon worked part time off and on over the years as a food demonstrator, crafter and entrepreneur.
Sharon was a devoted family woman, a military spouse that raised two sons through several moves and relocations. Sharon is remembered as a selfless caregiver of others. For years, Sharon cared for her aging mother, ill son and husband, as well as caring for her young grandsons. Despite the distance, Sharon remained close to her family in Minnesota, especially sister Leigh.
Sharon was an avid gardener, always busy transplanting or caring for her outdoor flowers and yard. Sharon will be remembered for her beautiful roses. Sharon was also creative and enjoyed handwork and many crafts. She enjoyed sewing, cross-sticking, crocheting and knitting and painting. In the 1980’s and 1990’s Sharon and her mother sold their creations at many craft fairs and shows in northern California.
The family would like to thank friend and handyman Chris Mosieur, the nurses, hospice liaisons and staff at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, for their care and support in Sharon’s last days.
Currently, there are no plans for a service.
