Sophie Cecelia Kellner

March 26, 1920—July 30, 2017

97 years young, from Sacramento, California; formerly from Yardley, Pennsylvania, passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania in 1920, Sophie was the daughter of Mateus and Elizabeth Musho (Musial). She was preceded in death by her spouse of 52 years, Arthur R. Kellner Sr., her eight brothers and one sister, her son Jim Kellner, and her late daughter-in-law Linda Shlegle Kellner.

Sophie was a classy, savvy, spunky woman who was active until a fall on July 4, 2017. Her faith was a vital component of the life she lived. She loved her family and was always interested in what was happening in their lives. In her later years, her opportunity to travel took her to Italy where she attended a Papal Mass at the Vatican and was blessed by Saint Pope John Paul II, and to Krakow, Poland where her parents were married.

Wherever she went, Sophie made friends. She never met a stranger and was genuinely interested in people, especially younger people, who reciprocated the interest. Sophie was a baker par excellence and was an accomplished cook, too. We will miss her amazing cinnamon rolls, Christmas cookies, and the best cabbage rolls ever. After moving to California in 2007, she enjoyed going “back home” to Bucks County, PA, to visit family and lifetime friends. Never one to be stuck in the past, Sophie took to the iPad with ease, keeping up daily with the local news, politics, and family. Nothing pleased her more than a raucous game of cards with family and friends. She also enjoyed a glass of good wine and a well-made Margarita.

Sophie is survived by her six children: Helen Morrison, Chicago IL; Art and Maria Kellner, Florence AZ; Beth and Ira Rosenthal, Rancho Cordova, CA; Joanne and John Beres III, Springboro, OH; Hank and Karen Kellner, Phoenix, AZ; Patrick Kellner, Loomis, CA and by her daughter-in-law and side kick, Tina Suarez-Murias.

Known as Grams to her 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Stephen and Laurie Kellner, Lauren and Steven Scher, Sara Kellner, John Beres IV, Tiffanie and Darrell Gibson, Jennifer and Kevin Brex, Stephanie and Les Lear, Brennan Kellner, Nikki Kellner, Cody Wyatt, Garrett Wyatt, Nikki Wyatt and Daniel Farley, GG leaves behind nine beloved great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 10:30 am at

Interment will be private at The National Shrine of our Lady of Czestochowa, Doylestown, PA 18901

In lieu of flowers, Sophie requested that donations be made in her memory to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Morrisville, PA.
