

Adolph B. Hynek, age 95, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024. He was born January 29, 1929 in DeWitt, Nebraska to Adolph and Mollie (Svarc) Hynek. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Lincoln, NE. He grew up in Wilber and later in northeast Kansas.
He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, serving his country from 1950 to 1954.
On December 24, 1950, Adolph and Lorene May Asch were united in Holy Matrimony at the State Line Lutheran Church on the Nebraska-Kansas border, they were married for over seventy-three years.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Adolph and Lorene made Lincoln their home.
Adolph was a retired police officer, having served the Lincoln Police Department for thirty-seven years, retiring at the rank of Sergeant in 1991. For many years Adolph patrolled the downtown streets of Lincoln and oversaw the meter maids. He had a friendly, outgoing personality and was known as ‘Sarge’ or the unofficial ‘Mayor of Lincoln’ by many of his friends.
Adolph and Lorene enjoyed traveling and staying in their motorhome. After retirement, they spent their winters in Texas. He loved being outdoors - gardening, taking care of his yard and puttering around in his shed. He also enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and friends. He and Lorene spent many hours dancing the night away, usually to their favorites - polkas and country music.
Adolph was a member of American Legion, VFW, and Eagles.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Adolph and Mollie Hynek, and his brother, Howard Hynek.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene; two daughters, Barb (Doug) Mayhew of Kimberling City, MO and Sandy (Duane) Maahs of Lincoln, NE; one brother, Glen Hynek of Lincoln, NE; one sister, Sharon Grams of Fairbury, NE; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Adolph will be held Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512. A funeral service will occur Friday, September 13, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Sheridan Lutheran Church, 6955 Old Cheney Rd, Lincoln, Nebraska 68516. A memorial has been established in his honor with the family in charge. Arrangements entrusted to Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, Lincoln, Nebraska.
