Dr. Alfred R. (Doc) Campbell 99, passed away Monday Nov. 8th in Ft. Meyers Florida. He was born May 12, 1922 in Loup City, Ne. to Nile & Bessie Campbell, the 6th of 7 children. The family moved to Lincoln where he attended Whitter Jr. High, Lincoln High School & University of Nebraska. He joined the Army Air Force in 1942, was discharged in 1945 as a Staff Sergeant.
In 1946 he married Betty Meyer. He enrolled at the Chicago College of Optometry on the G.I. Bill. Upon graduation, returned to Lincoln opening his first practice in Havelock. Then joined with an MD & DDS in a new building in Bethany. Doc was active in many organizations including; Optimists, American Legion, Lions, Masons, Moose Club and was one of the 7 founding Commissioners of the Little Chiefs Baseball Organization. He retired in 1977. After the passing of Betty, he married Gerry Adams in 1996. They became yearly “Snowbirds” to Ft. Myers in 2005. Then in 2014 they became permanent residents at 7 Lakes Retirement Community.
Doc had a passion for life and family enjoying: Golf, Scuba Diving, Boating, Camping, Lapidary, Bocce, Bingo, Karaoke and Dancing with the ladies, but most of all he loved the gatherings with family for any occasion. Survivors include; Sons: Vernon (Delores) Baldwin City, Ks, Douglas Greeley, Co, Alan (Darlene) Lincoln, Ne. and Daughter Pamela (James) Nolte, Ft. Myers, Fl.
He is also survived by 8 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren and Nieces, Nephews and cousins spread out across the country.
A graveside service will be held at 4pm May 12th at Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln, NE. Followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at Isles Reception Hall 6232 Havelock Ave.
