Barbara Rae Jackson

Barbara Rae (Wood) Jackson, 90, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away July 18, 2026. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on May 4, 1936, Barbara was the daughter of Harold and Alberta (Meyer) Wood. She graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1954.

Barb built a life marked by dedicated service in every role she took on. From 1964 until 1977, she worked in the Bill Drafting Department for the Nebraska Legislature. From 1978 until her retirement in 1998, she served as a Legal Secretary for the Nebraska Supreme Court. She loved working at the Capital; not just for the work she did but for all the people she met and connected with. Even in retirement, Barb continued to keep busy, giving her time as a hospital volunteer, delivering flowers for a local florist, working for UNL athletics on the event staff, and serving as an election poll worker.

Barb married her high school sweetheart, John Jackson, in 1957. Together they had three children and raised them in Lincoln. As a family, they enjoyed a yearly vacation, along with road trips to watch John play fastpitch softball. Though they later divorced, Barb and John remained close friends, continuing to share family gatherings and to be present for their grandchildren’s activities.

Barb enjoyed spending time outdoors in her garden, playing golf and cheering for the Nebraska Cornhusker football team at Memorial Stadium. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Beverly Knight.

She is survived by her sons, Curtis Jackson and Alan Jackson, and her daughter, Paula (Dale) Oxenhardt; grandchildren Sean (Olivia) Jackson and their children Ava and Max, Dillon (Crystal) Jackson and their daughter Hailey, Megan (Ryan) Fuchs, and Madison (Zac) Schilling.

The family welcomes friends to join them for an open house starting at 5:00 PM on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Jackson Studios, 3740 S 6th Street, Suite B, Lincoln, Nebraska.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the donor's choice.
