Barbara Jean Myers, age 94, of Lincoln, NE, went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Barbara was born on May 9, 1929, to John and May Andrews. She is survived by her loving children, Patti (Stephen) Redlin, Terri (Mark) Ewalt, John (Chris) Myers; grandchildren, Jason (Jodee) Ewalt, Brad (Lindsay) Ewalt, Paul (Dani) Ewalt, Blake and Danny Scott (Myers); 4 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Barb was an only child and was born in Albion, NE. The family later moved to Columbus where she graduated from Columbus High School. After that, they moved to Grand Island where she met her soon-to-be husband Keith Myers who was from Aurora, NE. They were married Sept. 3, 1948, and happily married for 57 years. During their time in Grand Island, Patti was born in 1952, and Terri was born in 1957. Due to Keith’s job with Dept. of Labor, they moved to Lincoln in 1962. John was born in 1966.
Barb worked in Grand Island at Willman’s grocery store and the Glove Factory where Keith also worked. After moving to Lincoln, she started working at Russell Stover’s Candies on the packing line, City Directory getting information for the telephone books, and then finally at Demma’s IGA before she retired in 1984 as a manager. She loved working at Demma’s and made lots of friends with the customers and employees. Everyone always commented about how friendly, involved, and concerned she was as she would talk to everyone as they came through the Checkout line.
When Keith died in Feb. 2005, Barb sold their family home and moved to the 55+ condos across from Van Dorn Plaza yet in Lincoln, where she lived for 15 years. An unfortunate fall that broke her leg demanded she sell the condo and move into an assisted living facility - Windcrest on Van Dorn (currently called Bailey Point) - and eventually moving to Sumner Place Nursing facility when her dementia took a stronger hold of her that required full care status.
On Thursday, February 1, she decided it was time to join Keith, all the family pets, and the rest of her family and friends who passed on before her. Her pain and mobility issues are gone forever and she’s free! She is truly missed as she was a big part of our day-to-day family dynamic. And although our hearts are broken at losing her, we are comforted by God’s promise of peace and eventual acceptance of this recent event.
A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneer Blvd., at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon and fellowship to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Capital Humane Society, https://www.capitalhumanesociety.org.
