Berdine was born in Bloomfield, Nebraska to Herbert and Lilian Greckel. With an older brother, Berle, and a younger brother, Wilbert, she shared many fond stories of her adventures as a little girl on a farm.
Berdine's love for life was effervescent. She filled her life with her faith, teaching, volunteering, entertaining, and most of all being a really good mom. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Heskett and survived by their four children, daughter, Suzanne (Barry) Van Amberg of Valencia, California, son, Dan (Cary) Heskett of Kalispell, Montana, daughter, Sara (John) Gran of Elkhorn, Nebraska, son, Todd (Leslie) Heskett of Lone Tree, Colorado. Berdine would joke that although she loved her "grand dogs" she wondered when she was going to have grandchildren. Her wish came true and she was blessed with 6 grandchildren, Kelly and Haley, Zachariah and Hilary, Nathan and Emma, and Ross and Hannah. She will forever will be implanted in our hearts, souls, and life.
Berdine's creative talents were sprinkled in everything she did. She loved to decorate, cook, play bridge, sew, read, craft, and garden. As a lifelong educator she combined academics with art to make every lesson she taught fun for the students to learn.
Berdine met the second love of her life and married Carroll Sawin (who preceded her in death) and embraced his family: daughters, Kristin (David) Welbes of Gilbert, Arizona, Sarah (Jay) Thomas of Lincoln, NE, and son, Paul (Jeanine) Sawin of Longwood, Florida; 4 grandchildren, Zachary and Brendan, and Samantha and Jack.
Private family celebration. Memorials can be directed to the Foundation of Lincoln Public Schools. Condolences to www.lincolnfh.com.
