During her growing up years, Cathy's family moved between Sabetha and Colorado for her father’s work. She graduated from high school in Sabetha and later earned her degree from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas.
After college, Cathy worked as an office manager for Youth Services in Lincoln. She met her future husband, Dennis Wright, through a young adults group at Lincoln Berean Church when it was located at 17th & A Streets. They were married there on July 1, 1977—Cathy fondly calling herself a “new fiscal year bride.”
Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and shared commitment. Dennis’s work took him throughout the world, and Cathy and Erica joined him when they could. They also treasured annual trips to Estes Park, Colorado, along with other travels across the United States.
Her devotion to learning was evident in the years she home-schooled Erica through junior and senior high school, and later in her service as a volunteer teacher assistant at Lincoln Christian Elementary School. Cathy was also an avid reader. Among her book collection were Bible commentaries, historical topics, Christian fiction and classical literature.
In addition to sewing Halloween costumes and clothes for her daughter, Cathy found a true purpose in service of her church through her handiwork. She sewed infant kits for church families and donated crocheted and knitted items to charity. She also attended Bible Studies and served as a leader for more than 10 years.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Dennis Wright of Lincoln; her daughter, Erica Wright of Lincoln; her brother, John (Beverly) Blair, Jr., of Ogallala, Nebraska, and their children, Luke and Rachel. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lorea Blair.
