Charles "Charlie" J. Hadwick

March 22nd, 1956 - April 6th, 2019

Charles Jerome Hadwick, 63, born at St. Elizabeth Hospital and raised in Lincoln, NE, died peacefully the morning of April 6th, 2019 at his home in Lincoln.

He was born in March of 1956 in Lincoln, Nebraska, son of Joseph Carl and Anna Marie Hadwick. He was married March 30, 1985, in Osage Beach, MO to Sandra Jean Welch. He was an amazing son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Survivors include: wife, Sandra Jean Hadwick; son, Gregory Joseph Hadwick of Los Angeles, CA; step-son, David Wayne Welch of Lincoln, NE; step-daughter, Theresa Marie (Kristopher) Stanley of Lincoln, NE; granddaughter, Emily Jean SoWel of Lincoln, NE; step-granddaughter, Hannah Kristina Stanley of Lincoln, NE; two brothers, John Carl (GayeLeene) Hadwick of St. George, UT, and Robert Joseph (Colleen) Hadwick of Blaine, TN; three sisters, Dianna Loretta (Mike) Maher of St. George, UT, Deborah Ann Mohr of Kansas City, MO, Jeannie Marie Hadwick (Leigh Ward) of Lincoln, NE; and sister-in-law, Benita Marie Hadwick of Lincoln, NE. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Anna Marie and Joseph Carl Hadwick, and his brother, Thomas Charles Hadwick of Lincoln, NE.

A graduate, all-city football team member, and four-year class president of Pius X High School, he attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science degree Majoring in Agronomy and Minoring in Horticulture.

He worked in the golf course industry for over fifty years and was the Superintendent of the Country Club of Lincoln for nineteen years. He then worked with the University of Nebraska, John Deere, and Lesco, among others, before an early retirement with disability. He continued to provide advice and consulting to friends and family until the day of his passing.

He served as president of the Nebraska Turfgrass Foundation (NTF) in 1999, and a Class-AA Member of the Nebraska Golf Course Superintendents Association (NGCSA) for 39 years. He received numerous professional awards, including Superintendent of the Year by the Nebraska Golf Course Superintendents Association (NGCSA) in 1991, a Distinguished Service Award by the Nebraska Turfgrass Foundation (NTF) in 2003, the Presidential Award at the Nebraska Turf Conference of 2015, as well as numerous others.

He was a member and volunteer of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Lincoln; a Scout Master of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 63; and Head Coach of various YMCA Youth Sports Teams. He gave in death as he gave in life. His final act was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. His spirit will live on in the many lives he will touch through his donation.

A rosary prayer service will be held at 5:30pm, Wednesday, April 17th at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (1720 Lake St, Lincoln, NE 68502). A short service and reception (or, as Charlie called it, his “Party”) will be Thursday, April 18th, at 3pm, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home (6800 S. 14th St, Lincoln, NE 68512).
