Delores was born on September 20th, 1933, in Imperial, Nebraska. She grew up on a farm north of Wauneta, Nebraska with her parents Oscar Dewey Hill and Thelma Neill, brothers Tom and Jack, and sisters: June, Bonnie, and Shirley. She attended Hillcrest Elementary School and graduated from Wauneta High School.
Delores married Roy Collins on September 18th, 1952. They lived in Lincoln, Nebraska and they both worked for Lincoln Public School District. Delores worked as a teacher’s aide in the physical education department at Millard Lefler Middle School. They were members of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln and generous supporters of many civic and armed forces organizations. Roy and Delores loved to travel, and they especially enjoyed vacations in Hawaii and trips to Las Vegas. Although Roy and Delores were not able to have children, they enjoyed the company of their nieces and nephews.
When Roy passed away in 1992, Delores became very self-sufficient despite mobility and transportation limitations. She became very adept at finding ways to get things done and luckily had friends and relatives who were more than happy to help. Her eyesight was not very good, yet she could spot a smudge or speck of dirt from several feet away. This made her very savvy shopper which was evident from the abundance of shoes, clothes, linens, household goods, and angels she acquired over the years.
She had several friends and they did a good job taking care of each other. Their outings included shopping, eating out, and trips to the YMCA to swim. In addition to her meticulous housekeeping, she kept busy with her yard and flowers and was an organizational expert.
When she was no longer able to take care of her house, she relocated to an apartment not far away that provided some assistance for her. The staff at this facility and every other facility she lived in always described her as ‘sweet’. She was generous with hugs and compliments and had a delightful sense of humor that made those around her smile.
After almost 90 years, her absence will leave those of us who knew and loved her with an unbearable sense of loss.
Delores is survived by brothers: Tom (Patsy Steele) Hill, Jack (Peggy) Hill; Eleven nieces and nephews, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Delores is preceded in death by father Oscar Dewey Hill; mother, Thelma Neill; sisters June (Duane) Blankenship, Bonnie (Charles) Hanna, and Shirley (Wayne) Ball.
A visitation with family for Delores will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 9:00 AM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM.
