Dorothy Ann Frew

Dorothy Ann Birkman Frew passed away in hospice care at Tabitha in Crete, Nebraska on Monday, January 25. She was born on March 26, 1926 to Viola Lora (McKenzie) Birkman and Herman John Birkman at their home in Lincoln, NE. Dorothy graduated from Lincoln High School in 1944, and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln from 1944-1945. In 1945 she left Lincoln to live with her brother Fred and his wife Georgia Birkman in Tacoma, Washington to work in the Todd Pacific shipyards for ten months. Dorothy returned to UNL in the fall of 1947 for one more semester. In 1948 Dorothy began working for Midwest Life Insurance in Lincoln and enjoyed square dancing in her spare time. It was at a square dance that she met John Frew. She was married to John Snider Frew on December 30, 1949 and the couple went to live at their home on the farm west of Crete.

Dorothy was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and active in United Methodist Women and Circle. She was a member of Wannanoit Extension Club for many years.

Dorothy helped John on the farm preparing meals and helping as best she could. In retirement the couple enjoyed being active on the farm and selling antiques at Aardvark in Lincoln.

Dorothy is survived by daughter-in-law Lois Frew of Crete; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Laura Frew of Martell; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Bruce Kelley of Vermillion, SD; grandchildren (spouses) Matt (Amber) Frew, Jenny (Chris) Meints, Hillary (Bryan) McCann, Caleb Frew, Kyle Frew, James Kelley, Rebecca Kelley; step grandchildren Stephanie (Shane) Grade, Tara (Travis) Brock; Kylie (Luke) Magdanz; Nathan Bahr and many great grandchildren.

Dorothy is also survived by brother-in-law Warren Williams and sister-in-law Dorothy (Frew) Moore.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Viola (McKenzie) and Herman Birkman; husband, John Frew; daughter Patricia Lee Frew; son Richard John Frew; daughter-in-law Carol (Svarc) Frew; sister Helen Louise Birkman and brother and sister-in-law Fred and Georgia Birkman.

A celebration of life will be at a later date.
