Dorothy was born December 8, 1926 to Arvid and Elizabeth (Scheerbarth) Sparr on a farm near Emerson, Iowa. She had an older sister, Evelyn, and two younger brothers, Marion and Max. She graduated from the Red Oak, Iowa High School in 1944 and attended the University of Iowa where she majored in Journalism. Dorothy married George Holdren June 13, 1948. They had three children: George, Jr (Chris), Greg, and Susan. She was active in community affairs. Dorothy was a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the 1960’s where she received both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Education degrees. She was an elementary grade school teacher in the Lincoln Public Schools for 22 years, meeting many fine students and their parents. After retiring from teaching, Dorothy became a member of the Lincoln Area Retired Educators Association. Dorothy and her family were members of Eastridge Presbyterian Church. She was a church school teacher, trained and ordained as a Stephen Minister, and was the church librarian for five years. Dorothy enjoyed her family and friends, Bible study groups, photography, antique collecting, travel, playing bridge and attending University of Nebraska football games. She enjoyed life.
