

Earl Smisek, 79 of Firth went to be with the Lord on August 12, 2014 after a six year hard fought battle with Alzheimer’s. He was a resident at the Wilber Care Center for the last two years. Earl J. Smisek was born October 8, 1934 to Joseph and Alice (Madison) Smisek on a farm near Burress, NE; the 8th of 9 children. Earl grew up working on the farm with his brothers and sisters. He moved to Lincoln and married Agnes Foreman on October 11, 1951; to this union, 5 children were born; Kathy, Karla May, Joy and sons Keven and Joseph (Joe). Earl worked at Hill Hatchery, Starkweather Elevator Company and American Stores. On September 1, 1962 he went to work for the City of Lincoln Wastewater Department. He retired in 1995 after 34 years of employment. In 1981, he fought his addiction to alcohol and celebrated his 33rd year of sobriety. Earl Met Doris Siems at a dance and they were united in marriage on November 26, 1986; they moved to an acreage south of Firth that same year. Earl is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters Kathy (Garold, Frenchy) Charboneau of Seward, NE; Joy Smisek (boyfriend Ron Bauersack); son, Keven Smisek (fiancée Diane Keller); step-son, Michael Siems (girlfriend Robin Swanson) all of Lincoln; step-daughter and son in law, Judy (Tony) Sramcik of Sterling; grandson, Roger Smisek and granddaughter, Ameila Coleman, both of Lincoln; sister, Ann Anderson of Albuquerque, NM; one step great-great granddaughter as well as numerous other special relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rita Philipps, Betty Hancock and Ruby Smisek; brothers, Larry, Ernie, Leslie and Fred Smisek; ex-wife, Agnes Brown; son, Joseph; infant daughter, Karla May and step-grandchildren, Zellie and Zechariah Sramcik. Funeral Services will be Tuesday August 19, 2014 at 10:30 AM at American Lutheran Church in Adams, NE. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park on Tuesday at 2:30 PM. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the Wilber Care Center or the Alzheimer’s Association.
