Erna Erika Westphal, age 88 passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. Erna was born February 16, 1933 in Germany. She married the love of her life, Orville H Westphal in Germany while he was in the Army. Her oldest son, Heinz was born in Germany. They came back to the United States on an army naval ship. They settled back in Lincoln, NE where Orville was from. She went to work the University of Nebraska cooking for one of the fraternities. After that she worked at Russell Stover Candy as a chocolate dipper for 23 years. She then moved on to Lincoln Public Schools retiring at age 65. Erna and Orville made several trips back to Germany to visit family and friends. She had a wonderful 54 years with her husband before he passed away in 2007. She enjoyed working in her yard and garden.
Survived by sons, Heinz (Trish) and Mike (Peggy); 4 grandchildren: Heidi (Johan) Kooij, Lucas, Tyson Westphal (Rebecca Schainost),Tamra (Matt) Jiskra; 6 great grandchildren: Alex Schmura, Hendrik Kooij, Kaylan and Aria Jiskra; Max and Mason Westphal; and 2 step grandchildren: Ronda Rivett and Carrie (Darin) League: 3 step- great grandchildren: Tyson, Hunter and Parker League; and many nieces and nephews in both the United States and Germany.
Proceeded in death by parents, husband, brothers and sisters.
A funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512 with a visitation one hour prior to service.
