Engelhardt, Jr., you would know what we are talking about. George entered into this
world on November 20, 1943 to George W. Engelhardt, Sr. and Elvina (Kyle) Engelhardt
of Hastings. He attended Hasting High School and began his career in the transportation
industry by delivering mail. He then worked forty plus years as an over the road driver
logging millions of miles. Until his death on April 9, 2026, he was able to touch many
lives and make a huge impression on those lucky enough to meet him and know him.
George only had friends, never any strangers. Many think trucking is a lonely job, but not
for George. He always had friends on the road to keep him company and to shoot the
breeze. For that reason, he loved his job and would say, “I always have a room with a
view”. Those that knew George knew he was energetic, hardworking, fun, witty, honest,
and compassionate. He would always have a smile to share, a joke or story to tell, and a
few minutes to light up your day. Living life to its fullest was his agenda.
George loved fishing, camping, the outdoors, tinkering in his shop, and his Husker
volleyball games thanks to some very good friends. He developed a love of traveling and
it was then that he decided it was time to marry the love of his life, Cynthia A. Krause.
On a trip to the European countries, he proposed to his true love in Chicago, bought the
ring in Venice, and had a wedding ceremony in Paris. Oh yes, he was a true romantic. In
all, George and Cindy shared 38 years together. The traveling continued as long as
George was able. They became permanent members of the Thursday night movie club
and with those friends, took many away Nebraska football trips.
George lived in The Harbor at Calvert his last year of life. He had the best care and was
truly loved. Even though he lived away from his wife and animals, he truly felt at home.
The caregivers were awesome and the family appreciated their loving support during that
time. We can never thank them enough for all they did to give George a good life. They
are the angels that walk among us.
George loved his dogs and raised four shelties, a mini Aussie, and a cat throughout the
years. George loved his family dearly and is survived by his son, Brent, and his wife,
Sue, his daughter, Aprelle, and her special friend, Bill, his grandchildren, Cody, Casey,
and Cassidy. George also enjoyed his three great grandchildren, Ryder, Chloe, and Ryan.
His dog, Lola, and his cat, Lily, also survive George. He leaves behind sisters-in-law,
brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and all his friends. His wife, Cindy will
continue to be a support to his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his
parents and four siblings, Ray, Mel, Naomi, and Dick.
A celebration of life will be held around the beginning of June. An announcement will be
sent shortly.
