George Loer Osborne Jr. was born October 28, 1927 to George L. Sr and Dora Mae (De Castro) Osborne in Grafton North Dakota. George entered into eternal rest November 8, 2014 in Lincoln Nebraska. George grew up in a variety of places from Hay Springs to Denver, but always referred to Hemingford Nebraska as his home town. George had a lackluster academic career until he attended Chadron State College. Once he decided to apply himself he became an excellent student and was admitted to medical school at the University of Nebraska in 1949. He was a Board registered general surgeon, family practitioner and emergency medicine physician. George often stated that "the greatest thing that ever happened to me" was on February 19, 1949, when he married his soulmate, Georgia Lee (Riggins) Osborne. Their 65+ year marriage was blessed with four sons, 7 grandchildren, and George got to meet his 5th great grandson, who was born this year. George was very excited to meet his first great granddaughter, who is due to be born in January. Apparently, George and Georgia were unphased by the fact that their names were so similar, so they named their sons Bruce, Brent, Brian and Brad. George's favorite past-times all involved his family. Golf is a family staple, as evidenced by the 8th annual Osborne Family golf safari held June this year at George's home course: Wellington Greens in Lincoln. In fact, George told his wife Friday, the day before he went home to be with the Lord, that he "had his best round in years" at Wellington. In the 1990s George surprised his family by rounding up the whole crew and celebrating Thanksgiving together at Disney World. George loved the experience so much that he did it two more times. His favorite activity at Disney, much like everywhere else, was in observing and discussing the enjoyment his family was experiencing. Dr. George was known by his patients and professional peers as a knowledgeable professional who authentically cared about each and every one of them. Everyone who spoke to Dr. George also knew that they were likely to have a good laugh, which was always part of his treatment protocol. George was involved in many ministries and services throughout his life including mission trips to Africa, South America and Central America, City Mission of Lincoln, school board, church boards of all types, pro-bono medical assistance to anyone in need (usually family and friends), spiritual counseling again to anyone in need. George was a retired and proud Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force. George was preceded to heaven by both his parents. George's surviving family include his wife Georgia, 4 sons, 3 daughter in laws, his grandchildren and great grand children, many family and friends. A Memorial service for Dr. George L. Osborne will be held Thursday, November 13 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be directed to St. Marks United Methodist Church in Lincoln.
