Geraldine L. Bornemeier

Geraldine “Jerry” Bornemeier , 94, Lincoln, passed away on September 1, 2026. Born on March 18, 1932 to John and Emma (Michaelson) Spitz in St Edward, Ne. Jerry graduated from Columbus High School in 1948 and worked briefly at BD Industries in Columbus, Nebraska. Jerry married Al Scissors in Columbus November 15, 1953. Al Scissors passed away July 1961. Jerry was blessed to be set up on a blind date with David Bornemeier of Lincoln, Nebraska. They were married November 10, 1963. David had daughter, Nancy (Bornemeier) Loveless and Rich Bornemeier from a previous marriage.

At twenty nine, she originally taught herself to sew after losing her first husband so that she could stay at home and care for four babies under 6 years old. Often, Lianne, the youngest, fell asleep at her mother's feet as Jerry sewed into the night when she was unable to sleep. Jerry sewed and tailored for customers in Columbus and Lincoln between 1961 and 2026

Once she married “David“ she kept sewing because she loved it. Sewing and revitalizing was as good for her as it was for anyone who knew her. Once labeled “The Whipstitch Wizard” by Journal-Star writer Cindy Lange- Kubick, she took so much pride in the many cheer-leading uniforms, wedding dresses, baby clothes, draperies, prom dresses, homecoming dresses, alternations, men's suits, and even professional photography equipment covering … but she never had a customer. She only had friends that knew they could call her with their cherished goods and she would make them new. No more piles on the dining room table with handwritten receipts.

Family members include her daughters; Jackie(Scissors) Coffey, Tracey (Tim) Domgard, Bobby Scissors-Meyers and Lianne “Lee” (Scissors) Lerdahl and son and daughter-in-law Richard (Pam) Bornemeier, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and counting!

Preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law; Clarence (Margaret) Spitz, and sisters and brothers-in-laws; Norma (Tom) Kennedy, Imagene “Jean” (Robert) Case and Patricia (Arnold) Muhle, step-daughter Nancy Loveless and son-in-law Eric Lerdahl.

To Celebrate Jerry in every special way, a service is planned for November 2, 2026 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68512. Luncheon to follow funeral service.
