Gilbert Norman Nelson

Gilbert Norman Nelson, 93, of Lincoln, passed away on Thursday, 8/28/14. He was born on 3/31/1921 in rural Cordova, NE to Harold & Lucy (Markussen) Nelson. After graduating from Friend High School he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He worked for Bank of America in California then returned to Nebraska to work at the Lincoln Regional Center for over 45 years. During his high school years he played football and basketball. In 1946 he married Wilma Heinzman in Friend, NE. Gilbert loved to work in his yard and refinish furniture. Active volunteer for over 15 years at BryanLGH West. Preceded in death by his wife Wilma, parents, & sisters Lu & Vi. Survived by: Sons: Ron (Bonnie), Roger (Vicki) and Randy (Roxy) Nelson. Grandchildren; Kyle and Chris Nelson, Amy (Ben) Hitch, Amanda and Zachary Nelson. Great-grandson: Colton Hitch. Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 2, 2014 Eastridge Presbyterian Church 1135 Eastridge Dr. Lincoln, NE Interment at Lincoln Memorial Park 6700 So. 14th St. at 2:00 PM. Meet at gate 2.
