Grace was born to Fred and Agnes (Drevo) Znamenacek and raised on the Znamenacek family homestead southwest of Crete, Nebraska, proud all her life of her Czech heritage. She loved going to District 3 Country School, and then on to Crete High and Doane College. She and her sister Dorothy worked at the Nebraska State Capitol. Grace met the love of her life and husband of 63 years, Stan Portsche, at a Sokol Hall dance in Wilber. They raised their four children in Lincoln.
She and Stan were realtors and land developers, creating Grace Heights and Portsche Heights. Grace was proud to have earned a 50-year award from the Lincoln Board of Realtors and also served as President of the Nebraska Legislative Ladies League. Grace flipped houses before that was a craze, but her family, genealogy and oil painting were her passions. Her 60-year friendship with her bridge group was very special to Grace.
Grace is survived and will be dearly missed by daughters Julie Angele (Jim) and Debra Paschke, and son Timothy (Margie); grandsons Adam Stumpf, Michael Paschke, Taylor and Alex Angele, Scott and Manuel Portsche; great-granddaughter, Emberlynn, sister-in-law Joann Znamenacek, many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Stan, son Randy Curt, sister Dorothy (Dale) Trausch, brother Lester Znamenacek, parents and parents-in-law Michael and Fern Portsche. Special thanks to Dr. Tim Stivrins for his attentive care over the years and to the compassionate staff at CHI St. Elizabeth Hospital.
