Born in Alexandria, NE on 19 February 1947, he was the son of Daryl H. Hosack and Josephine Bodus. He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1966. He was drafted into the US Army Infantry in 1967 and sent to Vietnam, where he served his country until his Honorable Discharge in February 1969. During his service, he received a Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Metal, 2 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Metal, and National Defense Service Metal. Hugh was most recently honored on 11 November 2021 with a Quilt of Valor. After his service in the US Army, he went to work for Dobson Brothers Construction for 30+ years. He was most recently, and currently, employed with MTZ Construction as Shop Foreman and heavy equipment mechanic until the time of his death.
Hugh was a man who could fix anything. If he couldn’t, he would take it apart and figure out how. He was always willing to help anyone out and fix anything with moving parts, or invent/re-engineer anything that just didn’t work like he thought it should. He was a loving, caring father and grandfather. He always enjoyed helping the grandkids put together their new toys at Christmas, and there was always a lot of toys. As they grew older, their toys just bigger and had more horsepower.
He was survived in death by his wife, Jackie Hosack; his children, Laurie Hosack, and Joe (Mickie) Hosack; brother, Danny Hosack; grandchildren, Daril (Ashley) Hosack, Emily Hosack, and Aaron Hosack.
He was preceded in death by, his parents, Daryl and Josephine Hosack, and his brother, Mike Hosack.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, 26 February 2022 at 2:00 in the afternoon at Lincoln Memorial Funeral, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln, followed by graveside service and reception. A visitation with family for Hugh will be held from 1-2pm.
