Jerry lived a long, meaningful, and faith-filled life. He was the son of Charles and Bertha Davis, born in Columbus, Nebraska and raised in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He was the youngest of 4, with older siblings Thomas, Virginia and Merlyn. After graduating high school, he proudly served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960, where he also met the love of his life, Henrietta, on a blind date on January 8, 1959 while stationed in South Carolina. A date he almost didn't go on, but then said "Ok, I'll go. Who knows, maybe I'll marry this girl". They married on June 18, 1960. They later relocated, where he attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and earned his teaching degree. He dedicated the next 35 years to shaping young minds as a mathematics and science teacher at Irving Junior High School. In the midst of his teaching career and Henny's nursing career, they raised 5 boys: Richard, Matthew, John, Daniel and Timothy.
Teaching wasn’t just his career, it was his calling. His patience, wisdom, and commitment left a lasting impact on countless students. Outside the classroom, Jerry found joy with his family, woodworking, traveling, gardening, volunteering for the Nebraska Motorist Assistant Program, and loved sharing his knowledge with others. He also had a lifelong love of poker, faithfully gathering with the same group of friends for a weekly poker game for more than 30 years. Those evenings became much more than a card game; they were a cherished tradition filled with friendship, laughter, and memories.
Jerry was known for his positive outlook, steadfast faith, gentle spirit, and quiet wisdom. To his family, he was more than a beloved father and grandfather—he was a trusted friend, role model, and constant source of encouragement.
He is survived by his sons, Matt Davis and Tim (Lea) Davis; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, along with extended family and many dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta Davis; his sons, Richard Davis, John Davis, and Daniel Davis; his sister, Virginia; his brothers, Thomas Davis and Merlyn “Mert” Davis; his parents, Charles and Bertha Davis; daughter-in-law, Sherry and his beloved aunt, Anna Jahn.
Jerry leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace and reunited with those he loved so dearly.
