John grew up in Lincoln, NE. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1965. He earned a degree in Computer programming at the Milford Trade School in Milford Nebraska.
John was married to Lynda West and together had 3 children, Greg, Eric and Amy.
In the year of 2000, John met and the married Mary and was stepfather to her daughter Denyse.
John was employed for the State of Nebraska and at Lincoln General Hospital as a computer programmer and the later worked at Teledyne-Isco where he retired in 2020. John had a passion for both classic and antique cars. At one time he was a member of the "Rebels Auto Club" and enjoyed showing his '54 Chevy at car shows where he won a number of trophies. He also enjoyed working on cars with his brother Don.
He is preceded in death by his infant son Greg, his father Edwin, his mother Evelyn and niece Angie.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his son Eric (Cathy) Kringel and granddaughters Kate and Ellery, his daughter Amy (Jon) Rickers and grandsons Jacob, Caleb and Eli, and his stepdaughter Denyse and grandchildren Andrew, Dionte', Semeia, Bossley, Benzley and Brielle, his brother Don (Shirley) Kringel and sister Connie (Richard) Bradley.
Family and friends are invited to honor John's life at a Memorial Service at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home at 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, NE on January 12, 2026 from 1pm to 2pm with the service following at 2pm
