He was born on February 23, 1962, in Plymouth, Indiana, and spent his life as a network and computer technician. He considered everyone he met a friend and was open and accepting so everyone felt comfortable in his space.
Chip was proud of the work he did to support companies as a contractor including several offices of the U.S. Air Force at The Pentagon where he managed the computer bench. He promoted thoughtful discussion to answer network and computer issues, and continued to build both his knowledge and that of his staff through puzzles, brain teasers, and problem-solving exercises.
Growing up, Chip was athletic, into skateboarding and Frisbees. So much so, he participated in a Frisbee demonstration in high school. He was a long-time diehard Washington Redskins football fan and would often be found in front of the TV watching his team play. Other favorite hobbies included playing bass guitar, disc golf, anything NASCAR and Ford, and restoring a 1966 Ford Fairlane, which happened to be painted Chip's favorite color, purple. He enjoyed Pokémon card collecting with his sons and transitioned to Pokémon Go with his wife and broader family. He took many opportunities to watch movies with the kids (of all generations) and often recited movie quotes whenever he could. Additionally, Chip took any opportunity to build something with his hands which included his garage work bench, a large slot car track that had a great deal of use during the weekend of his wedding and helping a close friend in Virginia update his fixer-upper home.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Melanie, his brother Matthew (Patricia) and his three sons, Justin (Samantha), Matthew (Courtney) and Zachary. His legacy will continue through his four grandchildren: Jordyn, Oliver and Bodhi Poe and Jaxson Marble. Chip was preceded in death by dear friends and loved ones, including his parents Eugene "Bud" and Jane Goatcher Poe, his birth father Justin "Jay" Miller and his brother Michael Poe. We find comfort in imagining the beautiful reunion as he was welcomed into their arms.
A Celebration of Chip's Life will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, at a later date.
Memorials may be designated to the American Cancer Society. See the link below.
