Karyl Kay Newman of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away following an unexpected illness surrounded by her loving family on January 14, 2019. She was born to Merle and Geneice Rosenberger on December 28, 1940 in Alliance, Nebraska. She was raised in Hemingford, Nebraska and went on to receive her bachelors of science at University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority and Mortar Board. Her membership in Chi Omega led to many lifelong friendships.
She was working at University of Nebraska Medical Center when she met Charles Newman, and they wed August 8, 1964. His medical training led to various stops around the country but they settled in Lincoln in 1973, with son Mark and daughter Paige now in tow.
Charles passed away in 1984, also suddenly and unexpectedly from a stroke which spurred her to form the Nebraska Stroke Foundation, an organization which raised awareness of and education about stroke.
She was a vital and beloved member of the community, involved in Questers, Random Acts of Kindness, Daughters of the American Revolution, Optimists Club, and of course, Golden Glow of Christmas Past. To say her Christmas collection was one of a kind would be something of an understatement.
Karyl was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sibling and friend. She knew more than her share of sorrow with the untimely deaths of her father, husband and sister, yet always soldiered irrepressibly on. She was humble, kind, and forever inquisitive. She will be greatly missed, never forgotten, always loved.
She is survived by son Mark (Karla) Newman, daughter Paige (Darren) Van Winkle, grandchildren Emma Newman and Peyton, Renner, Gabriel and Ava Van Winkle, brothers Arden (Jeanne), Greg (Janet) and Brad (Karen) Rosenberger, and extended family around the country.
As per her wishes, a private family ceremony was held at Lincoln Memorial Park on January 17, 2019. A celebration of her life will take place in summer, 2019. And, in memoriam of the countless visits enjoyed by Gramy and the grandkids, memorials will be given to Morrill Hall at UN-L.
"Her family lovingly commends her spirit to God's care with gratitude for her life on earth".
