Kathleen J. McGuire, age 84, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Kathleen was born March 25, 1937 to Russell and Anita Brandon in Hay Springs, Nebraska. She married the love of her life, Don McGuire, in February 1957. They had three wonderful children who brought them so much joy. Family was everything to Kathleen. Eventually Kathleen and Don did take in more children providing a loving and stable home to Brett, enabling him to graduate high school.
Kathleen was a ranch wife through and through. She had the impeccable manners of a Sandhills woman and was an excellent host to every visitor. She was an incredible cook whose skill rivaled that of her husband’s. Food was love. This was no more evident to her grandkids than in the fully stocked candy drawer she provided them.
Three pillars of Kathleen’s life were faith, family, and friendship. She was president of the Nebraska Diocesan Council of Catholic Women as well as the president of the National Council of Catholic Women. Her faith even provided her and Don with one of their dear friends, Father Mike. They were quite the gardener team. Father Mike weeded the garden while Elmer Fudd, er, Kathleen, kept the rabbits at bay. She and Don used to host an annual Christmas party where they could catch up with all their family and friends.
Kathleen never passed up an opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a truly caring woman and made those she loved feel loved and welcome always. Even as her memories waned, her love for her family remained.
