Kenneth Wayne Rethmeier Obituary Kenneth Wayne Rethmeier passed away peacefully at his home December 9, 2014 at the age of 86. He was born January 18, 1928 on the family farm near Crete to John and Pauline (Kubicek) Rethmeier. He was baptized and confirmed at Plymouth Congregational Church, where he was a lifetime member. He attended District 87, Red Brick School, through eighth grade. After graduation from Crete High School he made farming with his father his full-time occupation. In 1949 he married Patricia A. Thompson. To that union four children were born. In 1951, Kenny and Pat took over complete management of the family farm and Kenny’s parents moved to Crete. Kenny farmed the land, but his true love was raising cattle. He bought young calves and fed them for market. He did this for many years until he had to leave the farm for health reasons. He, his wife, and family moved to Crete. He went to work for Feed Service Corporation, where he continued working with cattle, analyzing nutritional needs and supplying feed for large ranches throughout the United States. After working for Feed Service, Kenny opened his own used car dealership. As he neared retirement, he worked for the city of Crete and the Crete Public Schools. His hobby was coaching basketball and baseball for his grandsons’ little league teams. One of his favorite pastimes was going on long walking adventures with his English Springer Spaniel, Molly. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary and Roma Jean, brother John, and son-in-law Steven Pospisil. He is survived by his wife Patricia, sister Phyllis Rethmeier Busboom, daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Jim Prokop, daughter Pam Pospisil, son and daughter-in-law Kenneth Jr. and Nori Rethmeier, son and daughter-in-law Bill and Vicki Rethmeier, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, December 14, at 2:00 P.M. at Plymouth Congregational U.C.C., 9th and Ivy, Crete, Nebraska.
