She worked 3 years as a key punch operator before marrying her husband George who was in the Air Force. That took them to California for 9 months and was then transferred to Okinawa for 2 1/2 years before returning to Lincoln. She stayed home as a homemaker raising their three daughters. Later in life she took care of her mother & then played the role of a nurse taking care of her husband through the years of his cancer.
They were married 54 1/2 years. She loved gardening, spending time with family, playing BINGO, any card games, spending time on her deck making art/planting flowers & loved her dog Charlie.
LaVila is preceded in death by her husband George Collins; great-grandson, M.J. Willeford.
LaVila is survived by her loving daughters, Valerie (Mike) Trobee, Dawn McFarland, Christina Collins; sister-in-law, Mildred (Nick) Melillo; grandchildren, Felicia, Nolan, Cole, Taylor, Madison; great-grandchildren, MaKenzi, Genevieve; dear friend Charlene Miller; many other relatives and friends.
A visitation for LaVila will be Sunday, February 13, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68512.
