Leo George Martens age 93 of Lincoln, (formerly of Denton) died on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in Lincoln. He was born on May 7, 1923 in Goehner, Nebraska to George and Esther (Guenther) Martens. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1945. Leo married Betty Jean Becker on May 9, 1948 in Pleasant Dale, Nebraska. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad at the Havelock shops for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He also farmed near Denton. Leo is survived by his wife, Betty of Lincoln, daughter, Janet and Russ Mowery of Lincoln, sons, Les and Audrey Martens of Texas, Todd and Jennifer Martens of Lincoln, sisters, Irene Darnell of Denton, Lucille Melichar of Omaha, grandchildren, Jeremiah Mowery and Kelly Mowery of Omaha, 2 step-grandchildren, Jacob Clark and Riley Clark of Lincoln, 5 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Pleasant Dale Fire Department.
