Lois Reed, 95, was born to John and Sophia Severin on the family farm near Princeton. She attended country school walking almost two miles each way and was the only student in her class. Lois married Richard (Dick) Reed, March 2, 1942, and enjoyed 40 years together before his death, March 15, 1982. They built their house and raised their family in Cortland. Lois was always active with her church, school and community. After Dick's death, Lois bought a condo at the new Van Dorn Villa and enjoyed living there until her illness.
She was an accomplished golfer, bowler, gardener, avid Husker fan, loved to dance and play cards with her many friends. She worked in the children's department of Gold's Department Store and 13 years with Russell Stover Candies and then buying a 5th wheel camper for their retirement. Lois traveled the U.S. and world with Dick Reed, Dick Miller & daughter Pat. She was dancing the week before her short illness bringing joy to everyone.
Lois is survived by her children Dennis (Kay) Reed, Bruce (Winkay) Reed both of Texas and Patricia Beck Langfeldt of Lincoln. She loved her 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandsons, nieces & nephews and many friends.
Preceded in death by husband Richard (Dick) Reed, son Richard Reed, her companion of 22 years Richard (Dick) Miller, her parents, siblings Alice Egger, Glen and Orville Pietenpol, Raymond Severin and Vera Engelbart.
Lois's memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, with lunch following at St. Paul United Methodist Church at 1144 M Street in Lincoln. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Methodist Church or Asera Care Hospice of Lincoln.
